On this tour you will:

  • Go back in time as your guide takes you through sites from several different periods in history that have been maintained and preserved by the Virgin Islands National Park Service.

  • Learn about the Creque Marine Railway and early iterations of power tools that were used to fix damaged hulls of ships sailing to North America.
  • Hike to reach vistas overlooking St. Thomas and the historic Charlotte Amalie Harbor.
  • Snorkel along a coral reef and learn to identify the marine life that calls this area home.
  • Enjoy a picnic lunch with your guide.

History buffs enjoy exploring Britain's oldest and most intact Naval Forts on US Soil and the world's most intact historic steam-powered marine slipway in the world. From kayaking across historic harbors, to hiking to sites, and finally cooling off at a beach to enjoy snorkeling with your guide, this tour has it all.

The journey begins from Virgin Islands Ecotours' Frenchtown Marina location in Charlotte Amalie’s Harbor. Kayakers paddle twenty minutes to Fort Willoughby overlooking the entrance of the majestic harbor. Paddle past Danish and British Colonial ruins and Careening Cove. A brief hike brings you to Fort Willoughby and the Garrison House—Britain's most intact Naval Fort on US Soil from the Napoleonic era, which is currently being considered as a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. From there, you will paddle to the historic Creque Marine Railway, which is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation by the Virgin Islands Park Service. The tour concludes with a visit to Garden Beach, allowing you to relax in the shade, cool off with a dip in the beach, and participate in a guided snorkel along a coral reef. Enjoy your picnic lunch at a scenic spot along the way. Depending upon weather conditions or guest preferences, a hike up to explore the British Naval Fort Shipley may be substituted for a paddle to Fort Willoughby.

The hike is rugged and pants and closed shoes are strongly recommended.  A picnic lunch is included with the 5 hour tour.

This is a limited availability tour, be sure to make your reservation early so you don't miss the date(s) you want. If you have any questions please call us toll free at 1-877-845-2925.
